Victoria Marie Lawrence was a 19 year old girl who was beautiful inside and out. From the age of seven Victoria spent many hours on the children’s cancer ward at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, Helping the nurses look after her younger sister and other children on the ward. It was there she decided that she wanted to devote herself to being a children’s nurse.

At the age of 16 Vicki developed a 70% curvature of the spine and had to undergo major surgery, her only concern was that the surgery would stop her being a nurse. However in August 2008 her dream came true for she was accepted on the paediatric nursing degree at Teesside University starting in September, she loved the course, and in December she went on her first placement. The initial week was at Errington School in Marske. However on the Tuesday 9th December the day had come for her to wear her nurse’s uniform and become, what she had lived to be a nurse. We were so proud of her.

Although feeling a little unwell she went on her first night shift little did we know it would be her last. On Thursday she went to see her G.P who diagnosed her with Gastro-enteritis however over night her health deteriorated and on Friday morning Victoria died in the Arms of her mum and dad. An autopsy proved she had Sepsis, bronchopneumonia and Empyema.

Victoria’s smile lit up a room, and she was never happier than when she was surrounded by children.

The aim of the charity is to raise sufficient funds, to make a difference to sick and disabled children and their families, living in the Tees Valley area, by arranging trips, parties, Pantomime visits etc,to create smiles and happy memories.
